Win The Good Bastards Gold Nugget

Good Bastards Gold Nugget The Good Bastards Gold Nugget is a rare and famous nugget that West Coast gold miner and all-round Good Bastard, Evan Birchfield found by chance on his gold mine near Ross on the South Island of New Zealand.

It was a fortuitous find near the skeletal remains of an old hut and was with some other nuggets under a rock. It is believed that this little cache was that of a miner back in the 1800's who had hidden the horde and for whatever reasons the gold had remained hidden for well over a hundred years. He was very lucky to find them and consequently dug a great hole about a kilometre square and a kilometre deep on the town boundary trying to find the mother lode.

It is presented in an attractive glass fronted case on a slab of precious jade. While its weight puts it value at around a thousand dollars, its presentation, rich history and association with this book and competition, puts its likely value far in excess of that.

To win you have to submit either a Good Bastards story or a story of a "Good Bastard". The winner will be announced at the Southland Hotel Hokitika on Good Bastards Day 2002. A panel of the original Good Bastards mentioned in this book will choose the winner.

Selected stories will be posted on the web site and may be included in future Good Bastards publications.

Complete your story in a thousand words or less, it doesn't matter if it is less than a hundred, and submit it with the completed entry form (Click Here) - prior to 15th of October 2002 and send it to:
